How to include feature image in a summary reader feed?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi all,

Under Reading Settings, I’ve set my feed to show a summary of my post so that the email notification to my followers shows the first few sentences of the post (instead of emailing the entire post). The question is – is there any way to include the feature image of the post with this summary?

I always specify a feature image with each post, and it would be great if that was part of the emailed summary. There doesn’t seem to be an option to include it?

I’m using the Oxygen theme (non-custom) if that makes a difference.

    Thanks,

    Peter

The media file links are in the RSS Feed. Some email clients display theme and some don’t. http://peterlamphotography.com/feed/

Thank you timethief – so it looks like there is no way to include the feature image in the email? Because from what I can tell, the email body does not contain the image (or any link to it) at all…

To be clear… A “summary” email notification, as opposed to a full text, does not contain any images at all :-(

All need from the photobloggers I follow is the brief excerpt and the link. Then I click the link and visit the site which creates a page view stat. If I received the full post and images in the Reader or by email I would have no motivation to click into the site and create any page view stat.

P.S. I hope what I posted has provided some insight for you. There’s no way I would need to click into any photo blogging site and view images there (creating a page view) stat and perhaps buy some if I already receive all of the images in my email. Most photo bloggers post only images that are low resolution images optimized for the web. if we want to purchase images from them then we pay for them and get high resolution images.

Thanks so much! Yes that is exactly why I set my reader to “summary” mode, so that the whole post (including all the images) aren’t sent on the email. I much prefer my followers to visit the site to see the full post. For a while I had it set to “full text” and was wondering where all my readers went :-)

Typically my posts contain a series of images, and I use the feature image as a “teaser” of sorts – I was hoping that it (and only it) could be configured to be included in the summary mail. And judging by some of the other support requests, it may be something that WordPress is considering including in a future release. Fingers crossed…

    Thanks again for you help.
