How to increase blog space without buying?
-
After resizing already uploaded pictures because I am running out of space I don’t have more free space available but less. How can I free space without having to completely delete pictures?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you have used up your 3GB of free space, there isn’t anything you can do on WordPress.com itself other than delete files or purchase the space upgrade:
A free method might be to host your images on another site and hotlink to them. But, in my opinion, that will be significantly more work and annoyance for every blog post and runs the risk of those images disappearing if you lose your other hosted space somehow.

If you resized the images and now have less space than before, delete the full sized images.
You could also register a new blog and use it to host the images and hotlink as rootjosh says.

I simply opened an uploaded pic, clicked on “edit” and scaled it down.
What sense does it make to be able to scale pics down if that doesn’t also decrease the size? -
I’m going to look into that. It seems odd to me.
In general though, I would encourage you to resize before uploading. For one thing, it is a lot faster.

I think the scaling just changes the size of the displayed image, not the file itself, otherwise if you scaled it down, then decided you did not like the image size then scaled it back up a lot of quality would be lost.

Thanks, for looking into it!
And yes, I will definitely rescale first before uploading in the future, so far it hadn’t seemed necessary -
Auxclass may be right, but I admit that I haven’t actually looked deeply into what exactly happens when you use the system to resize. I do know that it isn’t meant as a space management tool. More of a “oops! I need that to be different.” tool.

Auxclass is most definitely right. It changes the displayed size only, not the file size. That’s the size you need to worry about.

Thanks guys. Doesn’t explain why I have less space after resizing, but I guess that doesn’t matter.
