How to increase number of posts in side column

I posted a couple of questions a week ago or so but can’t recall the title or my post, and obviously it is embedded in pages from days ago.

In summary, I tried to take the suggestions given me to:

    1. change my blog from having a static page
    2. inserting categories
    3. increasing the number of posts that are visible by name in the righthand column

After spending a few hours trying to read through your tutorial and making those changes, I learned:

    1. I prefer having a static front page, so I returned that adjustment to static status.

    2. Your definition of ‘category’ is not what I thought it would be, so I’m still confused. Is your definition referring to internal categories within my own blog? This is a new concept from my experience with social web products of the past. I’m not keeping up with the tech developments like I used to be able to.

    3. Since I did not change my static first page and don’t understand what a category is and how to manage that, I continue to fail with #3.

If possible, I simply want to learn if I can somehow adjust all of my posts to align in the righthand column. My intent is to make my blog as easy as possible to navigate for my visitors who are even less WordPress savvy than I am.

Thanks. I have limited time to work on this project (the net moves slowly in my part of the world), so I hope I can master the learning quickly. I need simple.
