how to insert portfolio/project page in 2017

  Hello!
  I am customising ‘twenty seventeen’ for my freelance work, I wanted to add portfolio (gallery).
  I found ‘portfolio’ option in panel, and created projects also added it in menu but unable to add portfolio work in it?

  Hi CW,

  On WordPress.com, the portfolio consists of a collection of portfolio projects. A project may contain one or more galleries, but the portfolio itself can not be displayed as a gallery.

  WordPress.com themes designated as Portfolio Themes in the Portfolios support page may be better options for what you have in mind. Most of them display portfolio projects in grid or tiled formats that resemble WordPress.com galleries in appearance, and have an optional portfolio page template that facilitates display of the portfolio on static pages.
