How to insert tripadvisor widget?

  • Unknown's avatar

    How can I post a Trip Advisor travel review widget? I paste the badge code in a text sidebar widget but can’t get it to work right.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

    There are several types of embed code that we don’t allow on WordPress.com for security reasons, such as iframes and script. You can read more about the code we do and don’t allow here:

    Add Code to Your Site

    Can you post the code you’re trying to embed? You can either put it in this forum thread, or save it in a draft post.

    Let me know if I can help with anything else!

    I’m afraid the language used in the link you state above, is a bit beyond my understanding. :(
    Here is what I am trying to put into a sidebar text widget:

    <div id=”TA_selfserveprop757″ class=”TA_selfserveprop”>
    <ul id=”LV1iZH” class=”TA_links NULKHZS”>
    <li id=”1GNMdpx” class=”ExIzjhxD7l0″>
    <img src=”http://www.tripadvisor.com/img/cdsi/img2/branding/150_logo-11900-2.png” alt=”TripAdvisor”/>

    </div>
    <script src=”http://www.jscache.com/wejs?wtype=selfserveprop&uniq=757&locationId=2562980&lang=en_US&rating=true&nreviews=5&writereviewlink=true&popIdx=true&iswide=false&border=true”></script>

  • Unknown's avatar

    The last part of your code is what we call Script:

    <script src="http://www.jscache.com/wejs?wtype=selfserveprop&uniq=757&locationId=2562980&lang=en_US&rating=true&nreviews=5&writereviewlink=true&popIdx=true&iswide=false&border=true"></script>

    Script is not allowed on WordPress.com sites.

    Let me know what you’re trying to embed and I can help you find a way to make it work!

    Hi thanks for working with me on this. I am just trying to add a little box that shows recent Trip Advisor reviews and our rating on trip advisor

  • Unknown's avatar

    I see. Unfortunately, all of Trip Advisor’s widgets use script to access your reviews and ratings.

    One widget that you can use is this one:

    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Widgets-g42480-d2562980-c6-a_widgetKey.logoWidget-Amanda_s_Bequest_A_Heritage_Immersion_Bed_Breakfast-Montague_Muskegon_Coun.html

    If you find that including one of these widgets is necessary for your site, you may be interested in a self hosted WordPress.org site:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    Let me know if I can help you with either of these options!

    Phooey. I hoped your language would work. It didn’t. As a very small B&B money is an issue so I am web mastering myself. Of all the options I’ve tried Word Press gives me the best ability at a dynamic “alive” website. I love it. Being lodging, having that TripAdvisor badge is pretty important. Maybe TripAdvisor and WordPress could play nice and work this one out? ;)

    Regarding the .org version of wordpress, I am actually using that as an app via JustHost for a second site that I have and to be blatantly honest…the .com version is SO MUCH better and easier. I would transport the other into wordpress.com if I could figure out how to transport my domain and the site without hours/days of agony.

    Thanks for trying. :)

    I understand. It can be frustrating when you can’t get these things working. You could try to contact Trip Advisor and explain to them that WordPress.com doesn’t allow script and ask if they have a non-script option? If you do this, link to the document I gave your before that explains the types of code we don’t allow:

    Add Code to Your Site

    I can definitely help you move your other site, if you’d like! Here’s a quick guide on how to move from WordPress.org to WordPress.com:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org

    If you don’t have one yet, you can create an additional blog to import your site to here:

    https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/

    As for the domain, there are two steps for setting up your domain.

    1. Purchase domain mapping on your WordPress.com site for the domain. You can do this through the dashboard of your site at Store > My Domains.

    2. You’ll need to contact your registrar and change your nameservers to the following:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

    You can read more about domain mapping here:

    UGHH. No end of problems with wordpress. I think I would like to transport my domain from where it is currently hosted. I already have it connected somehow with my wordpress.org account. Perhaps it is already mapping there. The bygonebasics.com site has gotten so corrupt, I need to wipe it out but I want to be sure I can immediately start building it again in wordpress as I own the domain.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’m happy to help you start fresh! However, the domain bygonebasics.com is not connected to WordPress.com. Hi there!

    Because your site is self-hosted with a different provider, I do not have access to your site’s files or the ability to provide support for you.

    It sounds like you should contact your host’s support team for more assistance.

    You can find support for your self-hosted WordPress site here:

    http://wordpress.org/support/

    If you’re looking to transfer this WordPress.org site to WordPress.com here’s a quick guide:
