How to install a free downloaded WordPress theme & must i upgrade to Premium?

    I have never used WordPress before, so total beginner. Please could someone show me how to upload a free downloaded wordpress theme. I have not upgraded to premium yet is this also a problem?

    You can’t install themes on WordPress.com. However, you can choose a theme that fit your needs from the Theme Showcase and activate it on your blog. Currently, you can choose between 370 free and premium themes.
    You can also customise the look and feel of every theme by tweaking the theme’s options. If you want more customization options you can buy the Custom Design upgrade.

    If any of the above doesn’t fit your needs you can move your WordPress.com blog to a web host that allows editing and uploading of completely custom themes, using the WordPress.org software.
