How to install a permanent image that remains in same place on Home page?

    I would like to place a small permanent image that will remain in the same place on the Home page of my blog — not in the header that appears at the top of all pages, and not in the perpetually scrolling blog of posts and comments below it — rather either between the Home page header above and the scrolling blog below, or, to either side. I have removed all widgets from the sidebar to the right of the scrolling blog to create space for such an image, but when I tried installing the image where the sidebar had been, it messed up the alignment of the Home page “page” menu (interestingly, though, not the alignment of the “page’ menus from other pages). Does anyone know how to install such a permanent image on the Home page that remains in one place, yet not in the header and not in the scrolling blog? Thank you.
