How to install a plug in?
-
Ok, I am really really new at this, and I’m trying to add a calendar of events to my blog. I keep hearing how easy it is to install plugins on wordpress, but I don’t even see a plugin option anywhere on my dashboard. Can someone please provide me with a WordPress plugin for dummies excerpt?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can’t. It’s that smple. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot install individual plugins or any themes into them The themes found on the internet are for wordpress.ORG installs which run on different software.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/On free hosted wordpress.COM blogs we can only use the themes which have been coded to run on this multi-user software and made available to us here. > Appearance > Themes and no others. We cannot edit either themes or templates on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/
If you wish to have complete control over a blog, the ability to upload themes and plugins, and to edit themes and templates then your option is to hire a web host and get a free software install from WordPress.ORG and self host it.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/What is it that you wanted the plugin for please? We have many widgets that can be used on free hosted WordPress.com blogs and there are also workarounds we can share for some things.

hello, I’m trying to add a tracking code to the theme Manifesto. Is that possible?
Thanks,
Janiese -
@janiese
It depends on what kind of “tracking code” it is. We cannot use Google Analytics or any other “tracking codes” that are Javascript.
see > code > http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
see also > stats > http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#additional-infoThe third party non-JavaScript visitor tracking we can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs are found on this page http://onecoolistebloggingtips.com/popular-posts/ Scroll down to “Visitor Tracking”

Please also click your username and find out that the blog URL you have entered is not correct. You must fix it. Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes. -
hi, there this is my first post so …

You cannot install a script of any kind whatsoever into a free hosted WordPress.COM blog. You cannot install tracking scripts, advertising scripts, affiliate scripts, etc. Please read this entire entry very carefully. Ok, i wasn’t clear enough:
i made a plugin that gets user data like browser, OS, IP address… and store it to the database and i made a graphic interface to display that data through a first page that displays the number of views of each page with a link (link not working) to another page that shows a detailed description of those views (OS, browser, IP…) and i’m testing this on my local WordPress installation not on a blog here i just signed up here that’s why my blog is with no content.
so if you can tell me how to make that link to work i will be grateful.
thanx. -

my local WordPress installation
We don NOT provide support for local installs on this forum which is only for WordPress.com free hosted blogs. You must post to http://wordpress.ORG/support/

@timethief, is it possible to add a translation tool? I keep hearing them referred to as translator plugins, but you said WP doesn’t support plugins. Please advise.
-
You have two choices that work on WordPress.com blogs. See here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/02/14/translation-widget-for-wordpress-com-blogs/
-
@timethief…you are my hero. I’ve been trying to figure out how to do that for ages. Thank you.

A little frustrated. Have read a number of times, WordPress.COM doesn’t support plug-ins. However, I want to install the fabulous WordPress Editorial Calendar. I watched the WordPress video that instructed to go to the Dashboard’s sidebar and under “Appearance” to click on “Plugins.” I do not see the “Plugin” option. Please clarify. Does this mean that if my blog is on WordPress.COM, then I am unable to load the WordPress Editorial Calendar. If that is true, how can I gain an editorial calendar for my Dashboard. It would be a very useful tool.

@talk2marta
I’m sorry my comment above and the information at the links I provided did not make the following clear to you. The video you refer to has zero application to free hosted WordPress.com blogs. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we cannot upload any individual plugins into them at all. That’s why there are no plugin tabs on our dashboards here.If not having a WordPress Editorial Calendar which is only for self hosted WordPress.ORG self hosted installs is a deal breaker for you then you can hire a web host, set up a WordPress.org install and upload and use the WordPress Editorial Calendar plugin on your WordPress.org install.

hello.
im trying to install hit counter at my wordpress. but i didnt see any plugin on it. can you help me? -
Please read this thread. You cannot install plugins at wordpress.com. Plugins are for self-hosted sites using the software from wordpress.ORG.
See this post by Timethief for some counters that work here at wordpress.com.
