Receiving duplicate imported posts from tumblr

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s weird. Usually the software detects duplication. I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

I am not seeing duplicate posts on healthyheartworks.wordpress.com. Is this the correct blog?

If so, could you please point out where there are duplicates appearing? Can you confirm that the posts in question weren’t duplicates on Tumblr as well?

You would not be able to see them as I have already deleted the duplicate posts that were imported from my Tumblr acct (no duplicates there) twice already which uses up quite a bit of the available mb space. Just wanted to be sure before doing it again. Thank you.

Okay, that makes sense. Did you do more than one import, or did you get duplicate posts on a single import?

Imported a few times perhaps once a month. First time was pretty much accurate, twice after that received duplicate posts leaving me with two of everything.

Are you seeing duplicate posts because the posts already existed on your blog, and when you do a new import, the posts you imported in the past are showing up again?

  • Unknown's avatar

Any WP posts made here are publicized directly to my Tumblr acct. When I do a new import from my Tumblr acct, the Tumblr posts imported in the past are showing up again including my WP posts that went out previously to my Tumblr acct.

    Two things are happening here.

First, when you post your WordPress.com content over to Tumblr, those are now Tumblr posts, so when you do an import of your Tumblr into WordPress.com again, we’re going to see those as new posts.

Second, our importer does its best to determine duplicate content based on post title and date. If your Tumblr posts are missing either of this information, our importer may not know that it’s duplicated content.

I’m not exactly sure why you would publish something on WordPress.com and then have it automatically posted to Tumblr, and then import your Tumblr back to WordPress.com. However, if you do so, I’m afraid you will almost certainly run into duplicated content along the way.

Thank you for your attention and guidance. After making a couple of posts that I began with on WP this summer I learned I could import from Tumblr. When I learned I could share posts with other accts, not just Tumblr I tried that also. In the process of doing so I did notice the the few WP posts made on Tumblr were repeated. No problem there.

Each Tumblr post has a headliner, or the name of who it was reblogged from and the date is determined by the date I posted it there. Other than that I would have to inquire if that is sufficient to be considered a title and date as you have recommended.

Initially the duplicate checking device did work properly when I returned to Tumblr to retrieve the more recent updates. At a later date it was not so successful. Your timely response and consideration is appreciated.

It sounds like our system isn’t able to distinguish your Tumblr posts as duplicate content based on the information being generated by Tumblr for an export. If you need to regularly import your Tumblr posts into WordPress.com, you may need to remove the duplicates manually.
