How to install plugins for WordPress Premium account

Plugin section currently asks me to upgrade for e-commerce plugins. But I simply want to install a shortcode plugin for buttons. /wp-admin contains no plugin section either.

  • Only plugins that can be added externally are the eCommerce plugin you see on that page.

Most of the other popular plugins are included automatically within all the site hosted on WordPress.com. Other plugins can’t be added to WordPress.com regardless of the upgrade.

If you are keen on having buttons on your site, then perhaps you may want to consider self-hosting WordPress where you will have complete control over your site.

How to manage the wordpress plugins with the premium plans then?

Most popular plugins are automatically available to WordPress.com users. This is why plugins are not allowed on Premium plans either.

Only three eCommerce plugins are allowed on Business plan; which is what the Plugins menu in the dashboard states as well:

Support for Shopify, Ecwid, and Gumroad is now available for WordPress.com Business.
