How to keep category posts from showing up on home page?

I recently set up my blog. At first I was making all posts to the home page. I then decided to install a drop down box showing various categories. I now have a problem, whereby the category posts are also showing up on the home page. How do I limit category posts showing up on the home page?

    Thanks, ;)

Category posts will always show up on the main blog page. If you want, you can set your “home” page to a static page, but that will kill your Googlejuice and be off-putting for your readers.

Didn’t know that, thanks for the info….It seems kind of strange though, to have your categorized posts also on the home page?

raincoaster is telling it like it is. There’s some weird fad going on where newbie bloggers are choosing to create mock webistes based on a Page based structure rather than conventional blogs which are designed to have Post based structure. We can provide instructions for creating either. But when we are dealing with newbies who do not comprehend the differences between Pages and Posts, let alone, the implications of choosing to structure a blog in a manner that squelches Google juice, discourages backlinks from other bloggers, and cripples the blog’s ability to achieve PageRank, we say so.

I am a newbie, and I think I understand the difference between a page and a post.

I am not trying to set a mock website, nor squelch Google Juice, whatever that is? Either am I trying to squelch backlinks or page rank. All of those are things I probably want to do, although I don’t know what Google Juice is.

I was trying to understand categories…I have tabbed pages at the top such as home, copyright, news etc. I then put a drop down box with categories, such as deck, tools, etc.

My problem was, that every time I enter another post under a certain category, say decks for example, it also shows up on the Home Page. I mean if I am going to the trouble, to set up a certain category, to put all similar posts in, why does it then also put everything on the home page. Seems counter productive to me.

The “tabbed” pages you are using to display your categories in on the horizontal menu of your blog are actually intended to be used for display of static Pages, rather than for Category display. A few themes allow for this “switch” to be made in their options and also provide for sub-page display (child pages) in a drop down menu. In other themes a “trick” can be employed to create the switch. However, it’s true to say that this structure is not contemplated or provided for in most blog themes.

Many readers are only interested in your posts on one subject, so they prefer to click on the Categories widget. By displaying ALL the posts on the main page, you will not only rank higher in searches (Googlejuice) but you will also have a chance to tempt your readers with your OTHER material.

I have lots of people looking at my blog for quizzes, but they have to find them by looking at the page that has everything; they then have a chance to get interested in my other content. This is a good thing for any blogger, or any reader. If they really REALLY only want that one category, they can always subscribe to the feed for just that category, or put the category page in bookmarks.

OK…think I finally understand it, lol! Anyway, I am still learning the ropes, so thanks for the info ;)
