how to keep first post at the top of the first page all the time?

how can i keep the Namaste and welcome post as the top post on the first page all the time?
2nd question i am not sure despite everything i read and told about adding and using a new page – so that the first page does not have 200 posts? I do not understand and i do not get the idea of the page as such. thank you in advance.

Make it a sticky post. In the “publish” area, click the “edit” link beside “public,” then click “Stick this post to the front page.”

you can change the amount of post you want to show home page by
followingthe left column of your dashboard–>Settings–> Reading.
scroll down the page until you see
“Blog pages show at most”
to the left enter the number of posts you want on your homepage
don’t forget to save. -

You can choose how many posts to display on your blog page, and then people can click back to find older posts.
Just go to Settings>Reading and you can set how many posts to display.

Ok – thank you -but what about adding and also using new pages? I am sorry it is not a more elaborate fine-tunes question. Too amorphous – but I am confused.

All of your blog posts post to just “one” blog page, but the number that is displayed at any time is limited (according to the number you set as dlager & I described above).
Pages are static content — for example, someone who was an expert in nutrition might have a few separate, static pages with some unchanging information about basic nutrition, but then their blog content would consist of posts about discrete topics that they wanted to focus on.
You can also create the appearance that your blog posts are on separate pages by choosing a category for each post — e.g., a nutritionist might choose, fruit, fiber, vegetable, research, etc. — and then put the categories into a custom menu. When the item “fruit” was clicked, all posts under that category would appear on the page (but limited in display by the number you set, just as the regular blog page does).

wow – a lot of help here unlike the past. thank you – what I guess i want is to have separate pages like a traditional old school 6 page website that someone can click to get to. I believe you alluded to it above. I want to have various pages that i select stuff or that maybe the older posts get to be on. or any other permutation.

What’s critical is:
(1) a clear comprehending of the differences between pages and posts > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
(2) a clear comprehension of the fact that there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page. But we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.We organize our posts by assigning Categories to them. When we publish a post it automatically appears on the running page for posts and also on the Categories pages and Archives pages. Note: There must be one published post in each Category in order for there to be anything to display.
A custom menu allows you to display Categories in tabs along the horizontal navigation where normally only Pages tabs are displayed. If you wish you can also include Pages and custom links in your custom menu as well.

8. Refresh your browser so that it isn’t possibly pulling a cached page, and view see your new menu with Parent pages and dropdowns to sub-pages.

Ok – sorry for yet another follow up- – – at the top of the page is a home link. how do I get another possible link or 2 or 3 to be displayed there. I looked all over and see no way to add it in my 2 different dashboards for 2 sites. thank you.

You’re welcome. If you create static Pages, their titles appear as tabs in a regular menu without you doing anything else, but if you want to link to things other than static pages, you have to use a custom menu.

I realize that and i have been picking at understanding all of the info – but I do not see a menu that has the already listed HOME anywhere in my dashboard – that is why i am stumped.
