How to left-align text in photo captions
-
My caption text is all centred. It would look more professional if it were left-aligned. Is there a way to do this?

Please don’t post the same thing twice, ESPECIALLY if it has been answered.

jmacg,
Here’s a useful tip:
If you post a question, then come back later and it’s no longer visible or you forget the title you wrote, or for some other reason, you can find it by clicking on your name on top of this forum:Welcome, jmacg! | Log OutSimilarly, you can click on the word “Member” under pana’s name (or mine, or anyone else’s name here) to see a list of comments they’ve made in these forums.

Thanks 1tess – it didn’t realise you could do that, and no, I hadn’t been able to find my original post or any answer to it. It’s far better to get a helpful post like yours than a snarling response like panaghiotisadam’s.
Hopefully the WordPress people keep an eye on the postings and saw my post. As a professional designer I find the centred-text for captions quite amateurish. It would also be good if they allowed users to use italics, though that is not as important as the left-alignment issue.

The thing is if the captions were left aligned, there would most likely be far more wanting to have them center aligned, but being able to decide ourselves would be a nice thing. Personally I don’t like image captions so I never use them.
My suggestion, to make sure your request gets logged by wordpress staff, is to send your request to be able to choose caption alignment into support. http://support.wordpress.com/contact/

Well, I also favour the left-align of the photo captions. After reading the above comments, I experimented with the html. Under Edit Post, I went to the html view and simply deleted ‘dl’ before my caption and lo! the caption is left aligned! Truly speaking I do not know anything about ‘html’ but strangely it worked See http://vimokshananda.wordpress.com/2008/12/31/815/

@vimokshananda: Notice that your legend is now outside the image border. What you did is not a WP “caption” anymore: it’s normal text, OUTSIDE the image code. Of course one can align image legends any way he pleases if he simply writes them as normal text in the post.

Well you can delete the image and reinsert it (Add an Image > Media Library > Show, etc.).

vimokshananda, i guess you have to edit your post on Visual view. Then go to your picture, click on Edit image icon, retype tne caption
