how to let anyone post on my site – wordpress hosted

I went to settings>general to add ‘anyone can register’ to membership and didnt find it there. Is it possible to let anyone post on my site even though it is hosted on wordpress and not on my own server?
I dont mean adding users by them sending there email. I would like people just to post stuff if they have a wordpress registration.

    I saw:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_General_SubPanel – but my panel doesnt have that option, maybe because its wordpress hosted?

i would like anyone to post on my site upon approval of course. Similar to comments, but with article posts.

if this is not possible can you recommend plugins or something that may make this possible, while hosted on wordpress?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No it is not, and it isn’t on self-hosted blogs either. Here at wordpress.COM, they would have to each have a wordpress account (don’t need a blog) and then you would have to add them as a user. NEVER EVER add anyone as an admin, only as a contributor or at the most an author. Editors and admins can delete posts and pages of anyone and rogue admins wreak all sorts of havoc.

Your other option would be to link to a Forum from you site or have a contact form that people could use to email you articles for posting, don’t know if there is a limit on the amount of text in the form and then there is the extra work for someone to copy / paste and format.

Or perhaps a blog using the P2 theme http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/p2/ and in Appearance>>Theme Options and under Posting Access, check “Allow any WordPress.com user to post”.

They’d still have to have a WordPress.com account, but you wouldn’t have to invite them, and in this case I don’t believe there’d be a way to prevent their post from being immediately published.

Those whom I invite have difficulty signing up because the form asks fo a wordpres address. When they fill in the address of the blog they are signing in for, they say, sorry, that address is already used. Do they have to sgin up for a phony blog befores they can accept my invite?

    @awood97
All they need is a wordpress.com username account. They do not have to create a blog.

ok ive been doing a little more reading and it seems to make this work i would need to use wordpress.org site, not wp.com.

Apparently, i mixed up the two. Thanks for all your help!

WordPress.ORG does not allow just anyone to post either. They have to be added to the users list and assigned a role, just like here.

Another word of warning: Opening up the backend of your site to the internet is like leaving your car parked on the “wrong” side of town with the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition.

    Caveat emptor.

You people want a Wiki, not a blog. Wikis allow anyone to post.
