How to lose Search Function

How can I take out the search function on the top menu line?

If the search field is implemented as a widget, this can be done via the administration interface. Just navigate to Appearance > Widgets and drag the search widget from the widget area to the “Available Widgets” pane.
However if it’s hardcoded into the theme’s code, you’ll have to edit the HTML or CSS file.

On WordPressdotcom widgets are now managed in the Customizer. However, as @merelyguns mentioned, you can still access the Widgets in the WP Admin>Appearance>Widgets.
Looking at your site using the Baskerville 2 theme, it does look like the search box is hard coded into the theme. While we can’t edit the underlying HTML or PHP of our themes, in order to edit the theme’s CSS it would require either the premium or business plan upgrade to do so.
