How to mail followers digests instead of full posts?

  Hi, I have a question about what my followers get emailed when I’ve posted something new.

  For my other blog (stayontop.org) followers get an email with the first few lines of every new post, and a link to click if they want to read the full post.

  For this new blog however (historyofmentalhealth.com) followers get an email with the full text of every new post.

  I don’t want that (for several valid reasons I will gladly explain if you need me to). Problem is, I cannot find where in my dashboard I can change this setting, So, in summary:

  – Where can I find the setting to send my followers brief notifications of new posts, instead of sending them the new posts in full?

  You can use the More tag in your posts, the one that looks like a dotted line across paper. Then it only sends out the post up to the More tag. Or you can set your RSS feed to send out just a truncated version of the feed; do that on Settings->Reading, I believe.

  Thanks Raincoaster, but this is not exactly what I meant (sorry for me having not been clear enough, maybe).

  The “More” tag I never use because on my blog’s front page I want my posts to appear in full , not just the first lines with a “more” link.

  I don’t want to change how my posts appear in the blog, I only want to change the emails (not the RSS) that followers get in their email inbox.

  In my StayOnTop blog the posts appear in full on the front page (without a “More…” link), but when I publish a new post, the followers get an email that has only the first few lines and a link to the full post.

  I want to get to the same setup in my History blog. There, it looks like followers now get all posts in full in their email. So I want my posts in full on my blog front page, but the email notifications containing only notifications instead of the full post. Just like in my other blog.

  Problem is, I don’t know where I can find this second setting…
  Any idea? Thank you!

  The email is generated from the RSS feed.

  Thank you! To be honest, I had no idea that the RSS settings had anything to do with the outgoing emails… I’d always thought RSS was something different…

  In my dashboard under “For each article in a feed, show…” (in Settings -> Reading, as you said) I’ve now checked “Summary” instead of “Full text”.

  I assume this will solve the problem (can’t say for 100% sure until I’ve published a next post) so I will mark this topic as “resolved”.
