How to make a 301 redirect page for my site?

    Hello,

I recently changed my domain name and I want my old wordpress account to redirect to my new one with a 301 page. How do I do this? Also when I search for my company name, my old domain name comes up and my new one is nowhere to be seen.

The site I need help with is http://www.tinbirdproductions.com

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

Google may take some time to index and rank your new domain.

To redirect your old WordPress.com blog to the new self-hosted one, you will have to purchase a Site Redirect, pointing to your new domain. Make sure the link structures of both are the same, so that traffic coming to your old site can be correctly linked to the new one.

How to do that is detailed here:

    Site Redirect

DNS (Domain Name System) servers can take from 1 hour to 72 hours to replicate new domain information across the internet. Then Google and other indexers can take from a day to a week to index your new site.

The site-redirect (mentioned above) should work immediately, provided your domain is accessible via DNS.

As a point of reference read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System

Thanks for the info, I just bought the Site Redirect and it worked flawlessly, just waiting for Google to pick up on it now.

    :)
