How To Make a Banner Clickable

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi:
    I recently added a custom banner to my site. I’d like it to be clickable to my Home. How do I do this?

    I saw this forum workaround: http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/topic/making-the-header-banner-clickable-to-return-to-home-1?replies=7

    But don’t know how to make the CSS described work on my site.

    Would love some help.

    Thanks.

    The following assumes you want to use the existing “Home” link in your menu and not have a home link in your menu.

    #menu-item-3346 {
        width: 100%;
    }
    li#menu-item-3346 a {
        height: 163px;
        left: -15px;
        position: absolute;
        text-indent: -9999px;
        top: -200px;
        width: 100%;
    }

    If you wish to keep the existing home link in the menu, then you will have to add another custom link menu item to your menu and use change the menu ID number (3346) to that number. You can use the web inspector built into your browser to find that menu item and ID number, or you can view the source code on your site in your browser (view menu > view source) and locate that menu item (body > page > branding > access)

    Hi:

    I appreciate your help with this.

    I am a little confused by what you say here:

    The following assumes you want to use the existing “Home” link in your menu and not have a home link in your menu.

    If I can get the banner to function as a link to my home page, I no longer need the Home link in main menu.

    I added the CSS you sent but nothing changed in terms of the banner acting as a link. I tried removing the existing Home link, but that didn’t fix it, so I put it back.

    Hmmm, what am I doing wrong?

    When you removed the home link and then added it back in, it changed the menu ID number. Change the 3346 to 3747 in both of the rules I gave above and the banner works as a link to your home page.

    Silly me!

    I made the changed and now the banner is working properly.

    I really appreciate your help.

    I am all set now.

    Have a great evening.
