How to make a black border?

Regrettable, we are shortly expecting a sad event over on our blog…..can anybody tell me in very simple words, how to put a black border round our blog for a few days?
Do I need to be listed as administrator to do so? I have moderating and posting rights, but not admin.Thanks in advance, Carmeninta.

You can’t have a border around your whole blog page if you don’t know CSS and don’t have the paid CSS upgrade. What you can do is create a new post with a black border around its text, by using this code (in the HTML post editor):
<div style="border:20px solid black;padding:6em;">YOUR_TEXT_HERE</div>
(You can change the numbers into higher ones if you want the border or the space between the border and the text to be wider.)Hope this is close to what you need.
If you want it to be more prominent, you can temporarily change the number of posts displayed in your front page to 1 (in Settings>Reading) – after unchecking the sticky option from the post that now shows on top of the others, of course. Or you can create a page instead of a post and set it up as your “static front page” (also in Settings>Reading).
By the way, your hippos post is wrong: different font, spills off the main area into your sidebar. The source code of your page shows you’ve probably been pasting from Word, which you should never do:
It also shows you’ve used the code for a “table” – I wonder why.

Wow, I was just going to tell her she couldn’t unless she bought the CSS upgrade. That’s a good idea, I’ve never thought of it.

Although the site is named after me, I wasn’t involved in setting it up, so am more than in the dark – have to learn fast I can see.
Is there an idiots guide to CSS somewhere? Or a morons guide? Or a middle aged-never-thought-I’d-get-involved-in-anything-like-this guide?
Looks like I shall have to take over the running of it in a few days time – so your kind comments were very much appreciated.

CSS (which is a paid upgrade) is not recommended unless you already have knowledge of it. There is no official support for it and only a few people in the forums are well versed in it. There is a CSS forum here and some links at the top of it to various CSS resources.
