How to make a local docx copy my posts
-
I usually write my posts with Libreoffice and save them as .docx files.
When I transcribe them in WP.com, I edit them, sometimes heavily.
I would like to archive in my pc (windows 11) a .docx copy of the edited version.
How can I do it?

Hi there,
I get why you’d want to save a copy of your posts as .docx files — it’s a good way to keep your work backed up or share it offline.
WordPress.com doesn’t have a built-in “save as .docx” option, but here’s what I usually do when I want to grab a copy of a post for myself:
→ Head to WP Admin → Posts and open the post you want
→ Highlight everything (Ctrl + A), then copy it (Ctrl + C)
→ Open Word or LibreOffice, paste it in (Ctrl + V)
→ Then just save the file as a .docx on your computerIf you’ve got a bunch of posts you want to back up, you can go to Site Dashboard → Tools → Export and download your content that way. That’ll give you an XML file — which you could convert or reformat later if you want to turn it into .docx files. You can look up “convert XML to DOCX” online — there are quite a few free tools out there that make it pretty straightforward.
There are also a few plugins that can help with this — like MPL-Publisher, Print My Blog, or PrintFriendly. Just a heads-up though, plugins need a Business plan or higher to install on WordPress.com.
Let me know if you’d like help with anything else — happy to assist!

Thank you. It works. At least the technique of copying one post.
There is problem though: my footnotes were copied, but they are empty. I sow that WP doesn’t duplicate the footnotes when you duplicate a post. Maybe it’s just impossible. It’s a nuisance though. Do you happen to know a plug-in that would remedy this default? -
Thanks for the follow-up!
It seems like WordPress.com’s default editor may not handle footnotes the way you expected when duplicating or copying posts — they can sometimes appear without their original content or links when pasted into Word or LibreOffice.
If you’re using a Business plan, there are a couple of plugins you can try that might help preserve your formatting better when exporting:
→ MPL-Publisher – Lets you export posts to DOCX and EPUB. It’s known to do a decent job with formatting.
→ Print My Blog – Helps format and print your posts. Footnote results can vary depending on how things are set up.If you’re not already on a Business plan, WordPress.com offers a 14-day refund policy for annual hosting — so you could upgrade, try out the plugins, and if they don’t work the way you’d hoped, just reach out to support@wordpress.com to downgrade and request a refund for the difference.
It’s a flexible way to try things out without being locked in — happy to help if you want to explore this further!
