How to make a second batch of categories

    I have an automotive blog with various article categories such as news, videos, offbeat, etc..
    When I write my articles, they generally focus on a specific car from a manufacturer and I tag these names accordingly.

    I want to display a list of vehicle manufacturers in my side bar. When one is selected, I am taken to a page that lists all the posts featuring cars from the specified manufacturer.

    Can this be done with custom fields, if so how, can someone at least point me in the right direction bearing in mind I’m not highly literate in programming.

    Just make some new categories for each manufacturer and add the posts into those categories.
