How to make almost posts private?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a site with thousands of posts on it. I’d like to make almost all of them private for the next month or so, but I can see no way to do that other than:

    (a) going through *hundreds* of pages of posts in the Dashboard making them all private a page at a time, which will be agonisingly tedious,

    or

    (b) making the entire site private from Settings, which I don’t want to do as I’d like to have one post still live explaining why all the others are gone.

    Is this possible?

hey reverendstu , i know this can be frustrating ,but i got a solution for you , follow these steps :
1- in your WordPress dashboard ,go to “Pages” as you usually would , you will see that there is no option to select all and make private

-2 here is the trick,in the same Pages section on the top right of your screen you will see a dropdown menu with the name View, click on it and select Classic View

3-now click on bulk action, select edit , and click Apply.

4-Now you can edit the status and select Private.

You will not have to waste your time going in each page again.

Please let me know if it works, if you encounter any other problems reply here and i will be happy to help.

There’s no “Classic View” for me, but I see that menu DOES have an option to change the number of posts displayed (and therefore bulk-editable) at a time from 20 to 500 (and maybe more), which is enormously helpful, so thanks :)
