How to make CSS work

  • Unknown's avatar

I just bought the CSS add-on and now (conveniently after I paid) I’m being told that WordPress strips out any CSS they don’t like. Sure enough, I can’t make star-light work because it uses the behavior and -mox-binding attributes.

Is there any way around this?

If not, how do I get my money back? WordPress should really make it clear that they are not providing full CSS support before selling the limited CSS feature.

WordPress has a “no refunds” policy stated on the upgrades page:

We do not offer refunds on credits or products purchased on WordPress.com.

This is a multi-user blogging platform and the only css customization that can be undertaken is changes to appearance of blogs that do not affect other wordpress.com blogs and are not likely to be a threat to security.

iframes, flash an other embeds are not allowed https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=7885

Volunteers including Moderators do not discuss policy issues on the forums. If you have something you wish to say to staff then, you can send in a feedback tomorrow or an email to support at this domain.

Best bet would be to send in a feedback from your dashboard and explain the situation. We can’t answer money questions here in the forums as none of us have any official status nor work for the company. We also can not answer policy questions for the same reason.

Please also direct your “WordPress should…” comment to them, not us. We’re just volenteers here in the forums.

Okay, I’ll write the support tomorrow. (It’s rather bizarre that they won’t even let someone leave a message to be returned later on a weekend… oh well, least of my worries, I guess.)

I sure as hell hope that WordPress doesn’t enforce their “no refunds” policy when they misrepresented the nature of what they are selling. Ordinary people have a word for that, and it’s “stealing”.

I’m sorry. You missed the bit about “Please also direct your….” Doesn’t put you in that good of a light either. That and making assumptions about other people.

    Dear Dr. Mike,

Please don’t feel like anything I’m saying is directed at you. Thank you for your time, but I don’t really require a response from moderators on this issue any longer.

This is a forum, not a strict support Q&A, isn’t it? It looked to me like the most appropriate place to express that I’m pissed off at WordPress and feel like they are ripping me off, even if not for a lot of money. I’d complain to WordPress, but hey I can’t because it’s Sunday! Maybe someone else will get lucky and read this before they buy the restricted-CSS feature.

Most bloggers actually do post to the forum when contemplating the css customization upgrade. When they do so they ask if the specific changes they wish to make to the appearances of their blogs will be made possible by css editing. We then provide them with the links describing what is available re: css cusstomization here.

If you had done that we could have told you that whether or not you had the upgrade you could not have “star-light”.

Before you carry on making any further allegations perhaps you should read what wordpress management have to say in the links below. They make no false promises whatsoever.

In the Please Read Me First: What is Custom Css? post Andy states the css restriction right off the top:

WordPress.com blogs are hosted for no charge. You cannot add or modify any PHP on WordPress.com. If you could, we would have no security. Javascript and CSS editing are also restricted for security reasons.

Too bad you didn’t read it.

I would just guess that a moderator job is to moderate a forum. And if the forum is about questions and functionalities of WordPress, ranting on and making not very polite assumptions on other people, is – at least – off topic. So I guess the moderator is just trying to do his job.

This is a forum. A forum with a purpose. And a moderator to help to keep it that way.

There is an option for those who just want to express emotion. I think it’s called LiveJournal.
