How to make menus

I am having a lot of trouble organizing blog posts into certain menu tabs for my site. I have searched for hours and hours with zero success and am very frustrated. Please see my blog at http://awesomeaussie.me.

The content typed within the menu tab “NYC RESTAURANTS AND CAFES” is what I want within the Home page, since it’s an introduction. I would like to have the blog posts actually go to the “NYC RESTAURANTS AND CAFES” menu tab. Please help me, thank you!

Rather than “how to make menus” I should have said, “how to organize blog posts into specific menu tabs.” Please refer to the above. Thank you!

    Hey there!

It sounds like what you really need is to create some categories. Categories help you organize blog posts into your menu tabs. I am in the midst of creating an infographic that may help you…you’ll be the first person to see it :)

    Here you go:

Since that is only the beta version/unfinished version of the infographic, the links aren’t live yet. At the bottom of the page, #1 Create a Category will link to this instructional page:
    en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/

And #3 Create a Menu tab will link to these instructions on how to create a custom menu.

I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!

Thanks for sharing! However, I am still unable to separate my posts. Apparently, I realized that the “NYC Restaurants and Cafes” tab has URL http://awesomeaussie.me/about/ and I don’t want it to say “about.” I want all my blog posts to go into that tab. I set a category for it as you can see what I have done in the following link: file:///Users/alisoninglis/Desktop/Screen%20Shot%202014-11-24%20at%2011.23.00%20PM.png I am just not sure how to move all the blog posts from the Home tab into the “NYC Restaurants and Cafes” tab. Please help me. Thank you!

    Hello there!

All right, we’ll go about this a slightly different way if you want ALL your posts to appear under the tab, “NYC Restaurants and Cafes.” I misunderstood and thought you only wanted some of your posts to appear in that tab.

Here are the steps to take:

    1. Open “NYC Restaurants and Cafes” in your page editor. Simply change the title to Home. Click the Update button to save your changes.
    2. Add a new page called, “NYC Restaurants and Cafes.” Do not add any content to this page. Simply publish it as a blank page.
    3. Click on Appearance → Customize, or simply click here.
    4. In the blue menu on the right-hand side, select “Front.”
    5. Where you see, “Front page displays,” choose “A static page.”
    6. In the drop down menu that for Front Page, select Home.
    7. In the drop down menu for Posts Page, select NYC Restaurants and Cafes.
    8. Click Save to finalize these adjustments.

That should do the trick! If I can help in any other way, please drop me a line. Cheers :)

Great, thank you so much! You saved a lot of my time trying to solve this issue! :)

Since I plan to make future recipe related posts go into the Homemade Recipes menu tab, what would I do besides just creating a category called “Homemade Recipes” for a certain post that I want to go in the HomeMade Recipes menu tab?

    Thank you!

It’s my pleasure! I’m really happy I could help.

All you need to do is create the category, Homemade Recipes, and assign posts to that category. Then, you’ll add that category as a link in your custom menu.

Here are instructions about creating your custom menu:

Let me know if you have other questions! Best of luck with the site :)
