how to make post 'like' button available to visitors
-
I can see the ‘like’ button for a new post but the button is not visible to visitors.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are you referring to this “Like” button here?
That Like button is available on all post pages for visitors both logged-in and logged-out. The screenshot I provided is what I see on the following URL when logged-out:
However, when logged out visitors click that button they will be asked to login as only WordPress.com users can use that WordPress.com-specific Like button. Does that help to clarify?

Hi Jeremy
Thanks for reply. Yes, I do mean that button.
The problem is, visitors complain that the button does not appear when they visit the blog. It’s missing!

Hi Pat,
Can you ask the user(s) if they’re visiting the individual post page (http://mydeafandblinddog.com/2015/02/02/the-dogbird/) or your homepage (mydeafandblinddog.com)? If you could grab a screenshot of what they’re seeing at the bottom of the post, that would help as well!

Hi Jeremy
Sorry for the delay. I’m a slow worker!
The situation for visitors is:
The ‘like’ button never appears on a post in the current month.
The current month’s posts come up in a string and there is no ‘like’ button on any of the posts. If a visitor makes a comment then there is a ‘like’ button appears under the comment so that the comment can be ‘liked’ (but not the post!)
This information is from (IT competent) blog visitors.
Hope this makes the situation clear as my attempts to get a screenshot have been unsuccessful. (This is my fault. I’m not IT competent.)
Thanks for your patience.
Pat
It is there on each post in the archives. -
I meant to say that the ‘like’ button is there on each post in the archives but missing from the current month’s posts.

Hi Pat,
I believe I understand what you’re referring to. Currently, the Like button will only display on individual post pages. If you want it to display on archive pages and the front page, navigate to your Sharing page here:
https://mydeafandblinddog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=sharing
Then, check this option:
Can you give that a try?
-
Not quite. The like button displays fine on the archive pages but NOT on the individual posts of the current month.

Hi Pat,
I’m still not quite sure what you mean by “the individual posts of the current month.” Are you referring to a page like this?
http://mydeafandblinddog.com/2015/01/
If not, could you pass along the URL of a page where you expect to see the “Like” button but don’t?
-
Hi Jeremy
The pages which don’t display ‘like’ are the individual posts of the current month e.g. at present ‘February’ when viewed by the visitor.
Here is an example:

I hope this helps.
Thanks

Hi Pat,
Here’s an example of how the bottom of that post appears on my side while logged out:
I’m not quite sure why it’s not appearing on their site. If you could perhaps grab a screenshot and find out what browser they’re using, I’ll be able to troubleshoot a bit more. The easiest way to get their browser and browser version is to have them visit this site:

Hi Jeremy
Thank you. Eureka.
Used the settings link you gave me February 9th.
‘Like’ already set to ‘all posts’ so that puzzled me. On the off-chance I clicked on ‘save’ and then the ‘like’ button appeared on the post on the front page.
I knew it had to be my fault but couldn’t work out what I’d missed.
Thanks so much for staying with it.
Best wishes
Pat
