How to make Sundance theme full width?

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to use the Sundance theme as a web site, not a blog. How do I remove the column on the right side of each page but retain the scrolling window of photos? I want the scrolling window to be placed at the top (beneath the banner). I’m not an HTML programmer but would greatly appreciate any assistance.

    thank you in advance.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

The carousel pulls from your posts, so it’s not possible to retain it without having any posts. I see you’ve figured out how to set your theme up as full-width.

Eurello: thank you very much for the help & link.

My goal is to make the entire web site as one, full width column and remove the column with “recent posts, recent comments, etc.” as they don’t apply. This is currently my biggest problem…… I can not find anything in the “settings” section other than 1 column or 2 columns choice. It’s already set at 1 column so I presume that the “recent posts” column does not count.

I will still need to figure out how to move the carousel to the main or primary column.

    I appreciate your help.

  • Hi there,

I don’t see the column you’re referring to; it looks like you already removed the sidebar. Can you link me directly to where you’re seeing this?

but the side-bar (current posts, recent comments, etc.) remains present in both Internet Explorer and Chrome to me.

Thanks for posting that URL. you are posting to the wrong support forum.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate, have different log-ins and run different versions of themes with same names. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

We provide support only for free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and not for WordPress.org software installs. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

  • You’ll need to edit each individual page, find the Page Attributes module as shown here and choose the full width template:

If you don’t see the Page Attributes module, you may need to enable it in your Screen Options:

timetheif: I posted it at WordPress.org but it was rejected for the same reason: You will want to ask your question at http://en.support.wordpress.com

I feel like a ping-pong ball. Where should it be posted???

Eurello: Unfortunately, theme options does not show a “full width” feature although it’s mentioned in the theme description. I sent an email to the Sundance author but have not heard back (3 days). Perhaps I should look for a different theme that supports video, etc.

  • It isn’t in theme options; rather it’s in Page Attributes when you edit each individual page:

If you don’t see that on your end, click the Screen Options tab in the upper right corner there and make sure ‘Page Attributes’ is checked.

This has been very helpful however I can not find a “page attributes” box for the home page (it’s actually a ‘post’ rather than a ‘page’). So there is not choice or selection of full-width or other. I was able to make the three other pages full width but now need to do the same for the home page.

    thank you again.

  • For that, you’d need to use a “static” front page rather than a post. Create a page with the same information currently in your post, and then go to Settings->Reading in your admin area, and choose that page for ‘front page displays.’

You can choose another page for your posts page (like a page titled ‘blog’ or ‘news’) or just don’t choose one if you don’t plan to have a blog component.
