How to make Tenaz sections show different posts from one another

Hello! On my blog homepage, I have two sections right up top — “Latest” and “More” — that currently show the exact same recent posts, and I can’t figure out a way to change that. :) But I would like to very much!

In a perfect world, the “Latest” section would continue to show the five most recent posts, exactly the way they are now, while the “More” section below it would show the four posts that are chronologically older than the first five. So, in total, there would be nine posts between the two sections in chronological order by recency.

Does that make sense? I’m sure there is an easy fix, but I just have no idea where to look for it. :) Any help you can provide would be wonderful!

  • Hey there,

Happy to help you with this.

These sections are using a query loop block, and it’s possible to filter what appears there through the use of filters in this particular block.

You could use tags and categories to dictate what appears there. Furthermore, this would appear chronologically by default.

I hope this is useful information!

OK, so I found my way to that left-nav List View for the second group of posts (since I’m happy with the chronology of the top grouping), and followed you through Step 2 there, but I’m not sure where to see Step 3, as there’s no right-nav pane that pops up anywhere. (I had to sort of feel my way through to get here in the first place, to be honest.) What am I doing wrong? I’d love this blog to be actually useful and not just repeating the same copy all over the page.

Update: After some googling, I found out how to display the settings sidebar. I don’t see, under Filters, any option to filter by tags or categories. Is there an intermediate step I need to take?

And just to be clear — there’s no way I can get the “More” section, which I am trying to alter, to show the next batch of chronological posts, right? Meaning, posts 6-9 in terms of recency?

  • Hi! In case these can save you a search, we do have guides for how to work within the WordPress editor, including where to find various panels such as post/page settings or block settings:

With regards to the filters, when you have selected the Query Loop you want to make changes to, are you able to click the + button which aleone indicated to bring up the menu of filters? It should look a bit like this (minus the orange indications in my screenshot of course):

With regards to showing older posts than the five at the top, that’s a different setting known as “offset”. That’s in a different location within the Query Loop, as indicated here:

So if you change the offset to 5, it will change to show the posts that are older than your five most recent posts – as you said, posts 6 to 9.

AMAZING! That did the trick beautifully. Thank you so much for saving the day — both to you and aleone89! (And thanks for the extra guide links as well — I’ll dive into those next. :)) Thanks again.
