How to make text wider

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, so whenever I post on my blog, the text seems really skinny and I was wondering how I could make it wider. I haven’t found a solution for this so I was hoping you guys could help. Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hey there @samcalhoun1, are you referring to the column widths? If so did you want to just make the latest posts a single column instead?

And if not, could you get a screenshot of what you’re referring to? Here’s how:

And you can upload it here:

    Here’s what I’m talking about:

I don’t really know how to describe it.

    Thanks for that, that helps!

The Shoreditch theme has a fixed width for your post content on single post pages because it’s meant to be used with sidebar widgets as shown in the theme demo: screenshot https://d.pr/i/Inyy44

While there is a full width Page template, there’s no corresponding template for individual Posts. This isn’t something that could be solved with CSS as it would require editing theme files to change the behavior of the single.php file. You would need to upgrade to a Business plan in order to have that type of editing privileges.

Otherwise, I’d recommend adding some sidebar widgets in the Customizer to add more content to your single post page.

    I hope that helps!

Thanks. What themes would you recommend that don’t have this problem but are similar?

  • Hi there,

Given that you have a theme with a strong background color currently, I would recommend trying on of the themes listed here, which also have the ability to set a custom background:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/custom-background

From there the easiest way to proceed is to take a closer look at the demo site for each theme (especially the blog section) to see if the column width of posts in the demo is to your liking, since it will look the same with your content in place instead.

You can also “try” any theme before committing to it, which is a nice way to see how the theme interacts with your current content. When you launch a demo site to take a closer look at it, the option to try it on your site is in the upper right.

This is difficult to explain in words, so I recorded a quick video to show you how to find that option.

    Hope this helps!
