How to make the desktop view work in mobile view
-
I am trying (and not succeeding) at placing four photos of staff members on a page, one on top of another, aligned left (and to include text to the right).
To the right of each photo I’ve placed text, about each person.
I’ve done it using one classic block. I’ve also tried as eight seperate blocks.
Either it works in desktop view and not in mobile view, or the other way round.
How do I get it to work in both? -
Hello there,
Many thanks for reaching out.
Are you able to confirm the URL of the website that you need assistance with please?

I’ve finally managed it, though took 4 hours. Don’t ask me how I did it, but using blocks is a waste of time, I am going to stick with Classic from now on.
Why, when QuarkXpress and Pagemaker could place items and layers without them moving, had perfect text alignment, 20 years ago, why is it not possible for WordPress to have the same today?
The URL is
https://shetlandcatrescue.co.uk
I still haven’t managed to get the footer to align centrally on desktop view without going crazy in mobile view.

Thanks for that!
Regarding the blocks, you might want to try the Media & Text Block to do what you described if you want to give it a try next time!

Can you clarify this? I’m not showing the footer is centered now. Also, which elements do you want to be centered there? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise and help.

I tried the Media & Text block, but it doesn’t work in mobile view.
The footer is perfect in mobile view, large image of Shetland Cat Rescue logo with Facebook link below. But in desktop view the logo image is small and over to the left. I tried the WP suggestion of using both footers (currently it is all in footer 1) but this looks a real mess in mobile view.

Hi there,
One thing to be aware of is that by default the theme you are using displays two columns in the site footer, as you see in the demo site here:

Even though you are using only one of those columns (Footer 1) the other one is still displayed in the desktop layout as an empty space. The content you added to Footer 1 does not automatically expand to full width.
On mobile, because there is not enough space for two columns to appear side-by-side, they are “stacked” instead, so that is why the first column is full width on that layout (Footer 2 is just below it, but not visible since there is no content) but not on desktop. With your current theme there is not a setting you can change to have a “full width” appearance in the footer. To do this you will instead want to consider switching to one of our “full site editing” themes, which have the option to fully customize the footer:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/full-site-editing
Another option is to use your current theme, but customize it with CSS code to convert the footer to be full-width instead. This is not possible under the Personal Plan, but you can use custom CSS if you upgrade to the Premium Plan, or consider purchasing the CSS add-on.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
