How to Make The face of the website

  I want my site to look like all the professionals. When you go into a professional site, you see the photos and face of the person, and the boxes to press to get to other places. Mine is just a bunch of titles and you have to click on them to access, but there is no inviting site. Just a black page with titles. How do I create mine as an actual inviting site? I have written WordPress about this twice, but they don’t answer.
