How to make the 'follow my blog by email' text visible on my site

I have included the ‘follow my blog by email’ widget in my footnotes section and a little pop up tab comes up at the bottom with the + sign and follow, followed by instructions if you click on it. But people keep telling me that it isn’t visible enough and that they don’t know how to follow the site, so I want to make the instructions more visible so that I don’t miss out on followers.

I’ve seen other sites that have text clearly visible on their site inviting you to follow their blog, like this one: http://gatherup.wordpress.com/ which is using the modularity lite theme like myself, so I know it is possible but I cannot work out how to do it. I’ve tried putting the ‘follow my blog by email’ widget in both the footnotes section and the sidebar section but it isn’t visible in either other than the little tab at the bottom. Can somebody help please. Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Eleanor,

I see that you added the Follow Blog Widget to your sidebar. In the Modularity Lite theme, you can deactivate that sidebar — and right now, your blog has that sidebar deactivated so it won’t appear on your site.

To active the sidebar so it’s visible on your site, you can go to Appearance > Theme Options in your dashboard. Next to Sidebar, check the box that says, “Yes! I’d like to enable the optional sidebar” and then save your changes. Then the sidebar will appear along with the Follow Blog widget.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Hi, thanks for your feedback. I remember now that I disenabled the sidebar because I don’t like the way the website looks unbalanced. But even by re-enabling it I only get the little box saying ‘Follow an Enchanted Eye 302 followers’ What I want is this text that is really clear:

    EMAIL SUBSCRIPTION
Click to subscribe to this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email.

    Join 302 other followers

    Sign me up

Other sites have it so I don’t know what I’m missing. And I’d much rather have it at the bottom of the page in my footnotes section as opposed to the sidebar which I don’t want.

Thanks in advance for your further assistance.

    Eleanor

    Hi Eleanor,

If you’d like to have the Follow Blog widget in your footer instead of the sidebar, you can add it to one of the footer areas on your widgets page (for example, Footer 1) instead of the Sidebar area.

You can also click on the widget on that page to customize the text in the widget. You may also need to customize your widget’s visibility settings if you want it to appear on all pages of your site. Right now, the widget only appears on your site’s category pages, like this one: http://anenchantedeye.com/category/india/

We have more information about changing the widget’s visibility settings here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/#widget-visibility
