How to make the “Pages” appear under my header
-
I want the links to pages to be displayed under the header, but I can’t figure out how to do this in CSS. I have the customizable upgrade and have been working with it under the sandbox theme.
Please help! Thanks. :)

We need a link to the blog please.
At wordpress.COM, we cannot add top navigation to themes that do not already have it. That would require access to the underlying theme PHP script files and we do not have access to those.
My suggestion is to switch to a theme that already has the top navigation and then customize that.

Thanks! Which theme would you recommend that has the easiest means to customize?
If you don’t know, that’s fine. Thanks for the info!

Actually since you are using sandbox, there are a couple versions of the CSS that have the top navigation. This, http://sandbox-theme.googlecode.com/files/sandbox_1.6.1.zip , will get you the full theme. Look in the “examples” folder and you will find several versions of the CSS.

nalandainternational,
In (old) Sandbox, you could do that by styling the pages widget to make it look like a horizontal bar and using “position: absolute;” to put it right underneath the header. However, there are two more easy options that you could consider trying:
a) Sandbox has skins. Click on the link that reads “Sandbox Skins”, then select the last one: No Stylesheet. That should give you the top nav bar with your pages.
b) Select Sandbox-10 which is the newer version. That theme already includes the top nav bar by default.
HTH.

Aaaah, that did not work as planned. The pages do go up, but they are not placed horizontally.
Also, I lost the three-column look, even with three-column css involved! -
Actually I’m not seeing any of the top navigation CSS in that zip. I should have looked more closely.
This blog post, http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/category/header-tabs/ , in the first two columns lists the themes here that have top navigation. I would suggest staying away from Kubrick since it is a pain to work with. If you are going to use a header image, stay with fixed width themes rather than flexible. Flexible are a pain with header images.
Pressrow and Cutline are nice starting points as is Vigilance.

I’d suggest you to use Sandbox-10 instead. Go to my sandbox skins blog and check my Semmatic skin:
http://sandboxskins.wordpress.com/2008/12/07/semmatic-for-sandbox/
It has 3 columns and a menu bar beneath the header. Check it out, and if serves your purposes, use it and modify it to fit your needs.

If I were to use those, it’d be impossible to have three columns, correct? Ideally, I’d like three columns and pages beneath the header.

but the widgets won’t appear anymore.
There must be something wrong you’re doing. Don’t get me wrong, is just that perhaps there’s something in your main posts that is messing everything up… I just switched to Semmatic and everything displays right. Also, you have the “start from scratch” radio button checked, right?
Would you double check that please?

I just tried the skin in my test blog and the widget disappeared if I did a preview, but they came back once I saved with “start from scratch…” selected.

Oh my goodness, that was very silly of me. I didn’t have “start from scratch” checked. HA.
It works beautifully, thank you!!!

That is really strange… I do a preview and my widgets are displayed normally… hmmm….
Anyway, I’m glad you got it working, nalandainternational.
@devblog, that is a very nice skin, I like it very much. I’ve applied it to my blog here and might tweak a few things, but not much really. Thanks, TSP.

You’re welcome.
I’m trying to change the hover color for the categories and links widgets in my left hand sidebar, but can’t seem to figure it out. The right hand sidebar widgets I got changed no problem.
