How to make the photograph appear on Facebook like it used to?

    Hello everyone,

    For the last week or two, when anyone wants to link my blog on their Facebook page, the photograph ( and choice of such) that used to appear automatically after putting in the address of my blog does not appear anymore. Only a blank square appears.

    Even after debugging on the Facebook developers page.

    My blog address is carolinedufour.com

    Can someone tell me how to fix this?

    Hi Caroline,

    When you share a link to your blog (carolinedufour.com) on Facebook, it will try to use your blog’s image/icon (what we call your blavatar). You can add a blavatar for your blog under Settings > General in your dashboard. We have more about that here: Blavatars

    When you share a link to a particular post or page on your blog, Facebook will try to grab a picture from that post or page. If you’re having any trouble with that, please give me a link to the post you’re trying to share and I’ll take a closer look.

    Hello Rachel,

    Thank you for your response.

    After reading your message, I remembered that a short while ago, I deleted the image associated with my blog, preparing to put another one. And as it goes, I eventually forgot about the “putting another one” part…

    So I went and downloaded a new one right after reading your message, positive that it would work. But it still doesn’t.

    If a single “POST” is copied in a Facebook Box, it DOES work. And gives a few images to choose from.

    But it DOESN’Tt work if only my BLOG ADDRESS is pasted into a Facebook Box, i.e. http://carolinedufour.com (with or without www) …

    And it used to work so well… It even used to give me 7 or 8 pictures to choose from!

    Do you think you can help ?

    Hi Caroline,

    I just checked on Facebook by putting in http://carolinedufour.com/ and I see your blavatar image there. Facebook may have been saving your blog’s old information, so it may have just needed some time to update to your new image there.

    Can you try it again? If you continue to have trouble with it, please let me know and I can investigate. :)

    Thank you Rachel. It works now!

    However, as I explained in my earlier message, it used to be different, i.e. a choice between many photographs was given.

    Did WordPress change the system in some manner?
    Or is there something specific I must do?

    Hi Caroline,

    Sorry, I missed that part of your earlier message. This is due to a change in how we select the pictures to share with Facebook, based on reports that Facebook was selecting the wrong images when blogs and blog posts were shared there. At this time, there isn’t a way to change the image selections you see on Facebook when you share a link.

    I hope this helps clarify this issue. :) Please let me know if you have any other questions about it.
