How to make transition from wordpress.com easier?

    So I was trying to change the hosting of my blog to somewhere else, and installed WordPress and everything. However, I was having some trouble:

    When I exported the site and imported into the new WordPress, it wouldn’t work for some reason. The articles didn’t show correctly, and it wasn’t the same theme.

    Upon trying to get the theme set up (we use Koi by Nick LA) I uploaded it to it saying that there was “no stylesheet”. Also, I couldn’t merge the admin account on my wordpress.com blog to the admin on the wordpress.org site, how would I go about doing that?

    If you can see on our current wordpress.com blog (soundsofthecar.com), we set the images to 100 by 100 in the teaser as a workaround for the thumbnail plugin. However, now that we are going to use the plugin for thumbnails, how would we go about doing that? Among the things I tried last night, the thumbnail plugin wouldn’t work correctly either.

    Sorry for bombarding you with questions, but I’m going to try and transition again on Friday and want to make it as quick and smooth as possible :)

    Since you are moving off site you need to address your questions to WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/

    You will be using a bit different software than you are using here on WordPress.COM, yes I know the same WordPress name but many things are different especially the Plug-in and being self hosted.

    First off, any questions regarding the new self-hosted installation need to be posted at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where the software you are now using is supported.

    If there are errors or issues on the blog here, that can cause the export or import to fail. Without having a link to the new blog so that I could look, I can’t even hazard a guess.

    Themes from here do not transfer since the themes used her have been modified to work here and would be problematic on a self-hosted blog. Problems with themes on self-hosted blogs will have to be discussed either over at the wordpress.ORG forums or with the theme designer.

    Your new blog and wordpress.COM are not, nor can they be connected. Your new self-hosted blog is entirely stand-alone.

    As far as the thumbnails plugin, we cannot help you as we know nothing about plugins. That you will have to work our either with the plugin author or with the people over at the wordpress.ORG forums.
