  how can I make the twenty fourteen theme full width like it says it can do? Here is my blog http://www.RippleEffectMag.com

  Hello! I have read about a plugin called “Fourteen Extend” which apparently allows you to make the theme full width. See: http://wordpress.org/plugins/fourteen-extended/

  I was all set to install when I discovered that WordPress.com does not permit the use of plugins. I am new to WordPress.

  WordPress Support says: “Plugins are tools used to extend the functionality of the WordPress platform. However, they are only applicable to self-hosted blogs and web sites using the WordPress.org software. Plugins are not permitted here at WordPress.com for various security reasons.”

  Frustrating isn’t it! Especially when Twenty Fourteen is otherwise excellent in responsiveness to small formats like smartphones.

  I really like your blog, and the way that you have got around the problem by running the ‘SOCIAL MAGAZINE’ banner down the side. Can you please tell me – How did you do that?

  Sure. I basically played with a background image that I made myself and positioned it to the right this filled the space.
