How to make your blog a sub-page

The features section of the site says the following: “You can even create an entire web site using pages on WordPress.com, with a custom home page and your blog as one of the sub-pages.” This is exactly what I want to do. But other parts of the site state that you can only post to your home page, and that any pages you add will be static. How can I make the home page a static introductory page and make a new sub-page for the blog that will take dated posts? Or is this impossible?

The term “home page” is used for two different, and contradictory things.
Technically Pages are static. They do not change. You can make a static Page (instead of going to New Post, you just choose New Page. Then, once the page is written, you can go to Settings->Reading and set that as the front Page of the blog.
All your updates will go on the blog page, which is sometimes called BLOG and sometimes called HOME depending on your theme. They will not show up on that Front page at all.
If what you want is really just to have the latest update on the front page and the rest next in line, use Hemingway, which works rather that way.

Well, it does, sort of. It still remains a dynamic page unlike your other static pages. I hope this is not too confusing…
