How to make your name link to your blog.

I’ve noticed that many bloggers come for help but don’t realize that unless there’s a link to their blog, volunteers can’t view their blog in order to try help them out. I’m sure in some cases, people aren’t aware of how to make that happen, so I thought I’d title a post with exactly that information. Perhaps it might be a useful sticky? At any rate, now it will show up when people type in that title as a search here.

How to make your name link to your blog:

Go into your dashboard -> users -> your profile -> then scroll down to ‘contact info’. In the spot where it says ‘website’ fill in the address of your blog and save the changes.

Now… when you comment here and on other blogs, your name will link to your blog. If you do this before you post your request for help, it will allow forum volunteers to be able to help you quicker since they won’t have to ask you for a link and wait until you come back to post one.

Thank you, i found you on the first page!! i always wondered how to do it and on the first page you gave me the answer. I suspect that many people may be using it to leave many links as possible in cyberspace to increase their rankings on search engines. Thanks again,i’ll go try it.

thanks you!! it works……..keep up the good work.

You’re welcome! Some people don’t realize they can do this and so when they leave comments they also leave a link to their blog in the comment. Some bloggers don’t like links left in the comments and then other bloggers have their filters set to recognize anything with links in it as spam. Having your name link to your blog avoids those problems as well as makes it easier for volunteers in the help forums to find your blog and see how they can help you with whatever problem you’re having.

I’m glad it was useful for you.

yes, it also took me some time to figure it out… it is very useful.

Thanks, I actually figured this out myself, but it didn’t apply to comments I’ve already written so I didn’t know if it worked.

Actually, that doesn’t work if meant reversibly. I have three wordpress blogs and it all worked well, as I wanted everybody to be directed to the most popular blog I updated daily. So, that blog address was in “primary blog” and “website” in my profile.

I am now starting the third blog and since my user name is the same, I wouldn’t want people reading my third blog get a link from my username (in comments, for example) to my second blog. This can’t be done apparently.

Your name will always be linked to the blog you set as “primary” and there is no separate options for separate blogs if you register them under one username. The website link in the profile may stay blank or you may write anything, people will still be directed to your “primary” blog.

Can “blank” be added to the dropdown list of “primary blog” so that your username is no longer connected to one blog from the others? Or will I have to start all over again and open a new account with a new username?

Thanks, I’m new to all of this so any advise is great. I’m trying to set up a place family members near and far can keep in touch with what is happening with the family and I don’t really have the foggiest idea on what I’m doing. Your explanation was simple and easy to follow. Thanks again

Oh? actually now it works. All new comments are no longer linked to one of my blogs. Older comments remain linked, but that’s absolutely fine.

Thanks. I was wondering what happened to my comments.
