How to map my WP domain to my domain?
-
I have registered los-angeles-hair.com through wordpress and had my site originally hosted there. I have now moved off hosted WP and have a WP instanced installed at blog.mydomain.com. How do I keep this domain name but have it point to blog.mydomain.com. I tried the redirect feature (301) but that doesn’t keep the domain name in the browser so that’s not what I’m looking for.
I think I need to CNAME losangeleshair.wordpress.com to blog.mydomain.com but I don’t know how to set that up. I want it so that my users will still see los-angeles-hair.com in the browser URL and NEVER see blog.mydomain.com.
thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m not 100% clear about your end goal. Based on what you wrote above, I think you would like to map blog.los-angeles-hair.com to losangeleshair.wordpress.com and you would like to redirect los-angeles-hair.com traffic to blog.los-angeles-hair.com. Is that correct?
If you wanted to do something else with los-angeles-hair.com then you would set it up a lot differently than if you want to keep los-angeles-hair.com and blog.los-angeles-hair.com for the same WordPress.com blog like I mentioned above.

no, that is not correct.
End goal – have los-angeles-hair.com point to a WP hosted on blog.mydomain.com. The user never sees blog.mydomain.com in the URL. I *think* the only way to achieve this is CNAMEing over to blog.mydomain.com. Can I modify the DNS of the domain I purchased through wordpress.com?
If CNAME is not an option, what else can I do?

It’s hard to tell what you’re referring to. If blog.mydomain.com is a blog here at WordPress.com, you just need to map los-angeles-hair.com to it following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
If blog.mydomain.com is a self-hosted blog, you’ll need to work that out with your hosting provider.
-
What is there to work out with my hosting provider.? I purchased the domain name through WP and I want WP to point (CNAME) to my hosting provider. How do I do that?
-
Sorry for misunderstanding!
You’ll need to get the values from your hosting provider, then you can set that up in your Custom DNS panel: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-dns/

thanks! so if I want to CNAME to http://www.mydomain.com, what does the record look like?
CNAME <subdomain> <host>.
CNAME http://www.mydomain.com.
