How to map www.example.site.gov to wordpress site
-
I’m looking to point one of our subdomains to a WordPress site, but am having trouble verifying how this would work (for example, http://www.example.site.gov). We unfortunately have an established audience using the address with WWW, and I’m unsure if there is a way to resolve this to a WordPress site (which will reportedly remove the www) and otherwise keep the URL for the user experience. Is this possible? I was hoping to confirm this prior to committing to purchasing a plan.
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have added the modlook tag to ask a staff member to confirm but as I understand it although much of the Interweb no longer uses www , at WordPress.com typing either http:// etc etc or http://www. etc etc into a browser address bar will always redirect to the default https://
(Only https://www gives an error). -
Thanks! Just for clarity (as noted in the title), the goal is to map a sub domain and connect the WordPress site to our URL.
Thank you very much!

Hi there,
WordPress.com currently does not support sub-sub-domains (ie http://www.sub.example.com). If you’d like to use your site with WordPress.com my recommendation would be to do the redirect to
sub.example.comat your domain’s DNS provider. Many common providers allow redirects to be set at the domain level. Now, if you’re simply speaking of a subdomain itself (sub.domain.com) that is supported and can be added by using a CNAME record at your domain provider.
Hope this helps and let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you, bdukes! Just to make sure I’m understanding, presuming that we setup our DNS to route http://www.sub.example.com to http://sub.example.com, then use a CNAME (sub.example.com. IN CNAME nypabg.wordpress.com.) and finally set sub.example.com as the Primary domain in WordPress, this should allow visitors to navigate to http://www.sub.example.com and arrive at our WordPress site, showing the URL as http://sub.example.com. Is that correct?
Thank you very much!
