How to mask my WordPress.com URL with my own domain name?
-
Hello,
I’m trying to figure out how to mask SingleWomanTravel.wordpress.com with SingleWomanTravels.com – please help.
Also, will this only mask my home page or how does it work?
Your shared knowledge is much appreciated!!
Happy New Year! May your 2014 be happy, healthy and wish-fulfilling!
Thanks in advance

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and the domain name your desire must be available for purchase.
If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.
See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
See here for mapping a sub-domain (for a domain with an existing website) to your WordPress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

The page rank and authority the blog earned was earned by the .wordpress.com URLs and belongs to them. It’s not transferable and that means the domain starts from zero. In about 4 – 6 months time the same content originally indexed under the.wordpress.com URLs, will all be re-indexed by search engines under the domain URLs. All things being equal, the blog will probably have the same page rank and authority it had prior to purchasing domain mapping
For more insight into the process you can read Do I Need a Domain. -
Buy the domain mapping upgrade $ 13.- / year
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Your visitors Will then see SingleWomanTravels.com with all the addresses displaying correctly for all your pages & posts – and as an added bonus – all the old existing URL’s will also still work
Magic!
The site linked to my name is domain mapped if you want to see a site with mapping
