How to migrate a website to wordpress.com?
-
My friend has a website https://www.techprevue.com and want to migrate to WordPress.com from self-hosted server. Let me know if permalinks will be changed or remain the same.
Thanks in advance to everyone.

Hi there,
To change permalinks, this option is available on the WordPress.com Business and eCommerce plans with plugins installed. By default, WordPress uses post URLs which have the date and name in them. However, WordPress offers you the ability to create a custom URL structure for your permalinks. This can improve the aesthetics and usability of your links.
You won’t be able to change it on free sites.
To learn more about hw to use this read more about it here:

The user is asking if the permalinks for their posts and pages on the current WordPress.org site are going to change when they move to WordPress.com hosting.
What you provided was how to change permalinks for a WordPress.com site that already exists.

The answer is going to depend on the current permalink settings that your WordPress.org site is using. Does it use the post title and date format? If so, there won’t be any problem and it all stays the same.
Even if just the slug matches then the traffic should land in the right spot.
I know that’s not a very clear answer. But I hope it helps somewhat. The only way to absolutely be sure is to get set up on our business plan where you have control over permalink settings. Most sites coming to us from WordPress.org choose this option because they can continue using the same third party or custom theme, plus instal plugins.
