How to migrate my blog from Tracky to WordPress.com
-
My wife and I started a blog about 6 years ago, but after migrating to wordpress.org everything fell apart (slowed down, not a lot of interaction, etc). I posted here about seven months ago, but I was referred to the .com side of WP. We decided to switch over to Tracky, but it hasn’t worked work. We lost a lot of our blog posts from WP. Tracky said that they are still working on adding them, but we’re done and want to move over to wordpress.com to make our blog and lives easier. Here is my question:
-Should I ask http://www.tracky.com to transfer my blog back to wordpress.org in order to attempt to recover my old blog posts and then migrate to wordpress.com? Or should I create a NEW blog through wordpress.com and have tracky transfer my blog to my new wp.com website.
What is your opinion? Any help is greatly appreciated. :) -
I think the best case scenario is to refer your thread to Staff. You can type type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Of course, they will. :) They work their way through all tagged threads from the earliest dated to the most recent, so you need to be patient while waiting.

Hi @dulcecandy87 and welcome back!
Since Tracky doesn’t have all of your content yet anyway, it may make the most sense to import from your WordPress.org site. Is that still active somewhere?
-
Hi supernovia,
I can still access the backend of the site since i have the login credentials, but I couldn’t find any archives/old blog posts. :(
-
I am confused because there is already a dulcecandy.wordpress.com
I don’t know who created this one, but it seems dormant (7/2008).
There is also another one wwwdulcecandy.com that is supposed to be my blog. ??
**I am more than likely going to enroll in the WordPress Business after my blog is up and running to my standards. -

Sorry, but I mistook null
for our blog. the only one associated to wordpress.com is
blog -
I don’t have any access to the old blog posts. I am hoping Tracky gets back and helps me at least transfer everything back to the way it was, and then I can do a wordpress to worpress transfer.

You mentioned earlier:

Is that no longer available?
Do you have an export file that you used to import to Tracky? Again that would be the best option since you’ve said Tracky does not have everything imported yet. Trying to import from a source that does not have all the data would be like making a copy of a bad copy.
-
Since i didn’t have any access to the backend of wordpress after the second web developer worked on my blog, I could not export a file for Tracky to use, so basically Tracky handled the whole transition on their end. I have yet to see any posts from my old WP site so I doubt that they imported any files from WP. I have no idea what they did to transfer my blog.
-
The link you gave me took me to Tracky, but I don’t see the articles there.
Do you still have an account with your old host?
-
The link I posted was the one that used to take me to the WP to change settings. Now it is Tracky, but I also get an error “Oopsies!
Sorry, the page that you’re looking for couldn’t be found. “
at the bottom of the blog.
Rackspace was the one that was hosting the WP blog. Since we didn’t need them to host anymore, we cancelled the service.
-
Okay. Do you know what Tracky is currently using to try to get your content in for you? What copy are they working from, and do you still have that?
-
They’re kinda giving me the run around. They promised before the move that all my content would be transferred. I am going through a third person to reach out to Tracky, so I do not know exactly what they are doing on their end. I really hope they backed up my site so I can just import a my data back to wordpress. Once I hear back, I will provide more details. :)
-
Okay. If you have a backup from the old host, that might help too.
Or, if you can get them to provide an export in one of these formats, that would work:

Does WP allow you to import your own website design? We’re hoping to get our site over soon. We were thinking of going with the premium business package, but would rather have our own unique design. Thanks!
-
Hi @dulcecandy87,
You wouldn’t be importing HTML or JavaScript here. But, if you are having a designer do work for you (or if you are a designer) and you’re using Business or Premium, you can use CSS to modify any theme. Very dramatic changes and customizations are possible if you (or your designer) are handy with CSS.
