Hi chaitanyamsv, thanks for the link. I have been there before I put this thread up, I should have mentioned that. I still don’t understand it though. I know how to export my files from Tools>Export in WordPress.org from my site.

Once I do that, how do I place it in wordpress.com? I have a wordpress.com account, and when I click my site, it takes me BACK to my wordpress.org website. So it’s like, I don’t know how to access the wordpress.com site (the free one from the paid one).

Do I need to change something in the servers from hostgator? I’m a little confused there…

  • 1. Create a new WordPress.com blog something like example.wordpress.com

    2. Import your content from the export file of your WordPress.org site.

    3. Map your existing domain to your WordPress.com blog so example.wordpress.com will point to gamingandgod.com.

    Hope this makes sense.

Ok, I”m sure I did something wrong….now I get this message after doing what you said:

You can’t get there from here (site_id mismatch error). This happens when an external blog (a self-hosted blog using the Stats plugin) is pointed to WordPress.com by DNS. If you are trying to migrate away from WordPress.com, please update your DNS to point the domain to your own server. Otherwise please contact WordPress.com support and explain what you were trying to do, what steps you took, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened. It’s probably Andy’s fault.

    Hi Michael,

OK, at this point what you will need to decide if you want to map your domain to your WordPress.com site. If so, you’ll need to purchase mapping for your domain gamingandgod.com (http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/). Once you do so, your site should be up and running how you want it to be!

Ok, here’s the mistake I believe I did.

    My primary domain was: gamingandgod.com

I purchased mapping, and mapped my domain from gamingandgod.com to gamingandgod.com

I would have preferred to map it to a free wordpress.com site (example gamingandgod.wordpress.com). How do I change where the site is mapped to?

I created the new free domain, and it works fine, but I want it to be mapped to gamingandgod.com.

I just want to have my free wordpress site, and have it say “gamingandgod.com” instead of “gamingandgod.wordpress.com”

Thanks! How do I fix it?
