How to Move Gallery to New Post

    Hello:

How do I move galleries to a new post? It’s complicated so I’ll try to explain.

    1. I made a post at https://naturallyurbanpicshobbycorner.wordpress.com/2022/04/24/study-of-robins/ for ‘Study of Robins.’ On it I posted all my pictures of the robins. This makes a long post.

    2. Then I made galleries for ROBINS GROUPED BY FIELD MARKS. This is about 32 more pictures and their labels. Now the post takes too long to open.

I need to make a new post and link it to this one. But I don’t want to manually copy 32 photos and their labels to the new post. Is there a way to move an entire gallery at a time?

Currently, it is all on this post: https://naturallyurbanpicshobbycorner.wordpress.com/2022/04/24/study-of-robins/

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Yes this is possible! This is difficult to explain in words, so I recorded a quick video to show you how to find the gallery block you want to copy (in list view) and how to copy and paste that block into another (blank) post.

You can view the at this link: https://d.pr/v/geu6CY

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

That works beautifully! Does that work, too, when I want to move a post from one Word Press blog to the other? I have two different blogs on Word Press and sometimes I make a post in the wrong one.

There’s a catch. I had photos on that post. It is my understanding that photos must be manually loaded into the media part of the blog for which they are being used.

Bottom line: Can one move a post with photos from one WordPress blog to another? Maybe I should post a new question for this?

Sorry for the double post. It appeared not to be posting so I kept on trying.

  • Hi again,

There’s a catch. I had photos on that post. It is my understanding that photos must be manually loaded into the media part of the blog for which they are being used.

Actually there is nothing to worry about here. When you add photos to a page or post (say you’re composing something new and adding images as you go) behind the scenes WordPress will add those images to your media library as well.

So ultimately you do not need multiple versions of the same photo in your library… once it’s in there (which as I say, happens automatically as you add images) then that single image can be reused multiple times in pages and or posts.

For this reason, copying the block as I’ve shown in my video will work just fine, no need to add the images a second time.

Can one move a post with photos from one WordPress blog to another? Maybe I should post a new question for this?

Yes that is possible. You can copy the entire contents of a post in one click. Look for that option here in the upper right:

    Hope this helps!
