Hello binn0022, welcome to the WordPress.com and to the forums :)

There is a support article you can read at https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ that I think you’ll find very helpful, but I can try to give some helpful information.

By default, your blog has a single page for blog posts. These appear in reverse order, with your newest post on top.

Any other pages you have, which are accessible through those tabs, are static pages. Those pages basically have information that won’t change as often. If you want to create a static page, click on the “add” button next to pages in the dashboard. For most WordPress.com these, that will automatically add a tab that will link to that page. That page will remain as is until you edit it.

When you create a post by clicking on “add” next to “Posts” in your dashboard, it will put a new entry on your home page and push the previous entry down one post.

There is a way to make your posts appear in tabs using a custom menu and categories like you can see on my blog here:

The way I have it set up, the “guitar” and “gaming” tabs are categories of posts, while the other tabs are static pages. If you’re interested in something like that, let me know and I’ll be happy to post more info on how to do that.

Oops, my fingers weren’t cooperating in the paragraph about static pages. It should read “for most WordPress.com themes” rather than “WordPress.com these.”
