How to move my wordpress to paid hosting?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi all,

Ok I’m building my wordpress site online. Ok what if in the future I want to make it .com hosting? say http://www.komunitassukseshariadi.com

Is it possible? What are the general procedures to do this? How to copy those files from my wordpress to new paid hosting site? And all those mysql stuffs and etc?

Or perhaps I need to make my own website using tools like Joomla and Drupal, which I believe could be exported easily to paid hosting…?

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Ok it is possible then. But it is not completely what I meant.

It seems by doing an upgrade, it only change the domain from username.wordpress.com into username.com but with several limitations means that the site still hosted on WordPress.

What if I want to move my “whole” wordpress site to paid hosting like BlueHost or HostMonster? How to do that?

    Is it possible?

    Thanks

You didn’t read far enough. See this section of that linked page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org .

What you will need to do – the short version:

    1. Hire a web host (godaddy, bluehost, dreamhost, etc.)
    2. Buy a domain name and point the nameservers at your web host.
    3. Install and configure the wordpress.ORG software and either use one of the two themes that are provided, or find one on the internet and download and install that theme.
    4. Export your stuff from here and import it into the new self-hosted wordpress blog.

Hi there – I’ve signed on for 3yrs with Bluehost, recently. I want to transfer my WordPress blog with theme, etc, on over (I have a domain – golfinthefield.com).

Is the action to take similar as you’ve written above? Like this:
    1. Go to Bluehost and set up receiving acct.
    2. Go to My Blogs, Transfer Blog (meaning point WP blog to BH acct) or how to pt.?
    3. Export XML blog file from WordPress domain
    4. Import same XML file over at bluehost acct.

Does FTP fit into it somewhere? Am grateful for any advice….

While Redoable, the theme you are using, is available for self-hosted blogs, there is no guarantee that it has been updated for the latest version of wordpress. The fact that it isn’t listed at http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ gives me doubts that it has. That means you might have to do a bunch of hacking to get it to support the latest version of wordpress. You cannot download the version used here, and even if you could, it would not work properly with the self-hosted version of wordpress. The themes here have been modified.

    1. You have to install and configure the wordpress software at bluehost
    2. Since your domain name is registered here at wordpress.COM, you have to go into domain management here and change the nameservers over to bluehost. You then have to wait about 24-72 hours for the nameserver change to make its way through the internet nameservers.
    3. Yes
    4. Yes

FTP will be needed to install wordpress, themes and any plugins you need. Bluehost has a one-button install, but you need to be careful as many of the one-button install scripts have older versions of wordpress and you will want the newest version.
