How to move older BLOG entries to another menu

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi I created my blog elcaminohike.wordpress.com for the camino to Santiago. This travel is finished and I would like to continue using the blog with other hikes or travels. But the camino to Santiago should still be viewable from the main page menu (Camino/Travel/Hikes: not yet created). Is there a way to support different feeds in one blog.
If I do a post it goes to the main page, is there a way to send it to another menu/subtitle?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @elcaminohike,

Glad to know you would like to continue posting for your future travel stories! :)

Yes, you can create new Menu items like Travel/Hike and blogs will be posted in your desired category. You can use the feature “Category Pages” to help you with it. You can learn more about the details here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/

Also similarly, if you would like to have the posts appear in Sub-Menu(subtitle) –– you can assign the respected category to the Sub-Menu item, and while posting the blog, you can assign the same category for it to move to the submenu item as well.

Hope this helps, please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thanks!

    Hello @elcaminohike,

What I think you’re trying to do is have all of your posts/stories about ‘Pauls El Camino Hike’ all within this branch. Then you would like to have another branch called ‘Pauls Future Camino Stories In <Whatever>’.

There might be numerous ways of achieving this but one that comes to mind is utilizing dynamic category pages within a custom menu. You can create a custom menu and include the dynamic category page that automatically displays the published posts assigned to the the specific categories in reverse chronological order.

You begin by assigning categories to your posts.

When we create custom menu and add the dynamic category pages to the custom menu we have a page where it only shows the specific posts you want to show on that page.

So the order you should follow is:

    1. Assign Categories to your Posts: Ex. “Hiking In Santiago” Link
    2. Create a custom menu: Ex. “El Camino Hike” Link
    3. Add only the dynamic category page links into the custom menu that you want to appear in that menu: Ex. “Hiking In Santiago” Link
    4. Create pages and sub-pages for static content, not for posts

I hope this helps and gives you an idea on how you can accomplish what you are trying to go for. If you need anymore help please feel free to post on this thread.

Either I or my colleagues will get back to you.

    Best,
    Bill

Hi to Bill and pavanraheja thanks to both of you for your answers. I will try to change my site and need some time to analyse the better way to do it.
Currently I have this four categories assigned:
    1. #Jakobsweg #CheminDeCompostela
    2. #Trailrunning
    3. #WanderungenCH
    3. Uncategorized

do I need the Hashtag? probably not. Is number 1 two words valid?

    @elcaminohike

Hashtags are not necessary for categories. I would recommend not using spaces for your categories as glitches or confusion will more likely occur. If you upgrade to a premium account. You will have the option to use our live chat support which will come in handy for questions like this as they can make the desired changes to your site.

    Best,
    Bill

Hi Bill thanks for your feedback.
You mentioned premium account I am confused. At the bottom left on this page it tells me get upgraded “Go Premium” but on the top left by My Site under Plan it tells me Premium.
Set to Auto Renew on April 26, 2018.

    regards Paul

Ahh you already have a premium account, my mistake. I have no way of checking so I apologize for that. If you ever need one on one help or more direct assistance you can contact our live chat support. They will always be available and ready to help you with any issues you may face.

You also can tag a thread with ‘modlook’ so a wordpress staff can take a look at it.
