How to move the ‘pages’ tab from the side to the top of my blog
-
Hey people,
I’m using the ChaoticSoul theme and for a while now I’ve thought about moving the ‘pages’ tab from the right side of my blog (where it is currently situated – that’s the way the theme came), to on top of my blog just under its banner (like a traditional website).
How do I do that?
I’m finding it annoying that my ‘pages’ tab is in the same column as my ‘links’ tab et. al. It makes sense to have the ‘pages’ tab on top so readers can click them for more general information as opposed to specific information
Any help would be grateful.

That is a function built into the theme, and the only way to change it is to change themes. Here is a list of themes with header tabs:

On second thought, this might be of interest to you:

I’ve got this on my site, but it links only to the home page. -
Hold on, I don’t want to change themes. I love the ChaoticSoul theme – surely there must be a way to insert header tabs into an existing theme??!!
-
Not without access to the underlying theme files, and we do not have access to those because this is a multi-user platform meaning we all share the same underlying files.
-
So the only real choice would be to change the theme altogether?
I just wish that I had known about that before I had chosen the theme. Why can’t WordPress come up with a list of its most popular themes and allow users to tweak little changes here and there to suit their wants?
-
You can do that with an independenly-hosted blog, if you know how to hack the template. You can do it with Sandbox, if you know how to write CSS.

Here are the most popular themes:
We can’t change the functionality of a theme because everyone using that theme shares the same software. So a change you make would affect all, and what is “good” for you might well be seen as “bad” for others.
-
Could WordPress design a theme where users could choose to have header tabs – much in the same way as widgets?
So you would have your WordPress theme and if you wanted header tabs, simply add the exisiting widget and up it pops – users choose whether it is “good” or “bad” for them.
-
WordPress uses GPL licensed themes designed by independent theme designers. They do not design their own themes.
Is it possible? Yes.
-
But I would not sit at my computer to hold my breathe either. What ever we wish for…
Who gets that? -
Well – at least I know now!
Thank you so much “thesacredpath” and 1tess” for your help!
Regards.
