How to move the the the comment section to the end of the blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

Several friends have complained that they couldn’t leave comments. When I told them that “leave a reply” was just beneath the title, they said it should be at the end——when someone was eager to leave a reply. I fully agree. I tried to put in the comment section, but that too was placed at the beginning. No one would think to go back to the beginning of the blog to leave a reply, so they assume there is no mechanism to leave a reply. How can I place the “leave a reply” or the comment section at the end? Many thanks.

    Hi there,

When you’re viewing the front page of your blog at http://ifyouaskme.me/ you’ll see the “Leave a Reply” link just under your blog post’s title. That’s how the Twenty Twelve theme you’re using is designed.

However, if you view an individual blog post, the “Leave a Reply” section is located at the very end of the post. You can see that here: http://ifyouaskme.me/2014/08/14/the-islamization-of-the-world/

One way to make sure your blog’s readers see that is to use the More Tag in your posts. Everything above that tag will be visible on the front page of your blog at http://ifyouaskme.me/ and then your readers can click through to finish reading the rest of the post. Once they’ve clicked through, they’ll see the “Leave a Reply” section at the bottom of the post.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Thanks so much for your thoughtful response.

I tried it—the add tag—in edit mode for an existing blog, but it didn’t take.

When we fix this, I have another issue: I find whole paragraphs changing to another font size and don’t know how to fix it.

    Hi there,

When you clicked the “more” tag’s button in the editor, did anything appear in the editor? Can you send me a link to the post where you tried adding it?

When we fix this, I have another issue: I find whole paragraphs changing to another font size and don’t know how to fix it.

It looks like there’s some HTML code added to some of your paragraphs that’s increasing the font size. I’d recommending pasting text in using the “Paste as text” button to remove extra code and formatting: http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

here’s the link to the page I was trying to add the more tag. I tried to put it after the word Sweden in the 2nd line of the 5th¶, but when I went back to the blog, the whole blog was still there in the “About” category.

With respected to the change in font, the first two ¶s inexplicably changed to a smaller size. And the 5th¶ from the end changed to the smaller size and merged with the 6th¶ from the end.

And is there a way to use a different font? I much prefer a serif face—it expresses a bit more gravitas, I think.

Thanks so much for your help, Rachel

Oops again. I meant the “home” category, not “about”

Thanks for those details! It looks like the “more” tag ended up near the end of your post, just before the line “The film, Fitna” instead of where you intended it. Could you try scrolling down to there and deleting it from there, placing your cursor after the word “Sweden,” and then trying to insert it again?

Let me know if you run into trouble with that.

And is there a way to use a different font?

The most reliable way to change fonts is to use our Custom Design upgrade. That includes a selection of Custom Fonts to choose from, and that upgrade can be used with any theme here at WordPress.com. :)

I did as you suggested but the “more” tag wound up at the end as before.

Any further thoughts about the spontaneous changes in font size.

    Hi there,

I see you chatted with Chase about this earlier today. As he mentioned, style changes in your posts (like changing font size) can often happen if you copy text from somewhere else and paste it into the editor. When you’re pasting text in to the editor, I’d recommend using the “Paste as text” button: http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

That will remove extra styles and formatting like those font changes.

I took another look at your post, and I think that may be the issue with the “more” tag not working, too. Because of the font styles on your paragraphs, the “more” tag is being added below those paragraphs. Can you please try copying all of the text from that post, deleting it from the editor, and then pasting it in again using the “Paste as text” button?

Once you’ve done that, please try re-adding the “more” tag where you want it to go in the post. :)

Actually, Chase suggested I upgrade to Custom CSS. He said that program would enable me to move the “Leave a reply” to the end of the post as it appears on the first page of my blog, and the comments would appear at the end of the post where it resides in the Opinion category.

    Do I understand him correctly?

Also, of course, with Custom CSS I could change fonts.

You can use the Custom Design upgrade to customize your theme’s design using Custom CSS, so that might be an option. However, just as a little warning, it can be a bit tricky to do if CSS is new to you.

If you’d like to give it a try, we have tips for getting started with CSS here:

If you have CSS questions, most of our CSS support is done in the CSS Customization forum by expert staff and volunteers who can give you guidance and help:

Or, if you don’t want to deal with the CSS yourself, you can get additional help here: Request Theme Customization

I solved the problem. Check it out; it looks great. Thanks so much.

I just spent about :45 trying to figure out how to edit the little subhead to my blog title, to no avail. I kept hoping a chat host would sign in but they didn’t. (Is there a way to call for a chat host?)

I’m glad you found a solution that works for you — your site looks good!

You can edit your site’s tagline (the text in the upper right of your site’s header) under Settings > General in the site’s dashboard. Is that the edit you’re trying to make?

There isn’t a way to call for a chat host — if the chat window isn’t available, it means none of our chat support members are currently available. When someone becomes available, you’ll see the chat window appear.
