A blog meme is a viral game where you generate links and relationships through asking other bloggers to participate. There are many blog awards and all are memes resembling chain letters designed to get backlinks under the guise of blog awards.
Backlinks gained by awards memes are not valuable at all. The lower the pagerank the site that sponsors the meme is the lower the value the link is. New bloggers can get carried away with doing not much more that playing awards games and end up with reciprocal inks that lack value rather than building a collection of pillar posts that establish their authority by attracting valuable backlinks to their content.
